Trenton Museum Society Charitable Campaign 2011

A message to Trenton Museum Society members and friends

Many of you have received this appeal in the mail.  A sincere thank you to those who have already contributed to the Trenton Museum Society 2011 Charitable Campaign.

If you did not receive our letter in the mail, then you may not know that the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park is in a state of transition. Since the layoff in September of our exciting and dynamic museum director, Brian Hill, the Trenton Museum Society has had to cancel its schedule of exhibits, activities and events.

The most devastating cancellation was the proposed Four Vases Exhibit scheduled for March 2012.  The museum was poised to make a splash on the national scene by reuniting four examples of the world’s finest porcelain artistry made in Trenton for the 1904 World’s Fair. These vases have been separated for more than 100 years and their planned unified presentation at Ellarslie Mansion would have been both poignant and historic.

At this time, the permanent collection galleries are the only exhibits on display at Ellarslie Mansion. While the permanent collection is of much interest, it is the introduction of new art and cultural exhibits which allows the Trenton City Museum to offer the broad, changing spectrum of exhibits and events you have come to expect.

To put it simply, we need your support in order to plan for a secure future.

We are happy to report that we have begun a dialogue with City Hall and that we are planning appropriate events for the benefit of our members and the wider community in the short term; however, the Trenton Museum Society must be able to examine all options for the long-term future of the museum. If you have enjoyed the museum in the past and acknowledge its place in the cultural climate of the City of Trenton, your support is essential for its future health and vitality. With your support, the Trenton Museum Society will look for the best way to continue to provide the intellectually challenging, spiritually fulfilling exhibits and events you have come to enjoy and expect.

We are counting on you to help us maintain our commitment to the community and the museum’s mission as a venue for culture, history and education.

Please respond to our appeal and join with other museum supporters by December 31, 2011 to make the Trenton Museum Society Charitable Campaign a success.
