Fred Miller Music in the Museum
Harpist Cheryl Cunningham and flutist Erica Jo Simon performed compositions spanning over four hundred years, from the traditional Greensleeves to the contemporary classical. An enthusiastic audience enjoyed an afternoon of music for flute and harp by Philipp Telemann, Gabriel Faure, Michael Amorosi, Vincent Persichetti, Benjamin Godard, and John Rutter. Over 500 people attended the opening, which showcased the watercolors of Earl Lewis; photographs and woodworking of Hari Hawkins; hand-forged iron sculptures of Sasha Parubchenko; and Phil McAuliffe's photographs of President Barack Obama from the early days of his campaign, including a stop in Trenton.
Reception for Chein Toys Exhibit Opening
Irving Sachs, former owner of J. Chein and Company, sits below the portrait of his wife's uncle and company founder Julius Chein. On November 21, hundreds of patrons joined friends and family of the Burlington, New Jersey tin toy maker J. Chein and Company for the opening of the first ever exhibit of Chein Toys. This year's Open set many records: number of submissions (510), number of selections (188), number of patrons attending the opening reception on Arpil 25 (900), and the number of awards given (30). Over 150 patrons spent a Sunday afternoon learning about Trenton food industries. Here participants sample tomato pie and pork roll at the Oyster Crackers, Tomato Pie and Champale event on February 22, 2009. Congratulations to Papa's Tomato Pies for being voted the tastiest pie in Trenton!
Taste of Chocolate: Elegant and Delicious
Artist-donated baskets filled with samples of the evening's fare were auctioned during the event. Over 50 patrons enjoyed the chocolate, cheese and wine selections; the "Gentle Jazz" of Al Oliver and Jerry Groves; and the gracious surroundings on February 13, 2009.
Ellarslie Gala Great Success!
Trenton City Museum Director Brian Hill and Trenton Museum Society President Carolyn Stetson having a fabulous time at the Ellarslie Gala! On October 25 the Trenton Museum Society held an anniversary gala at Ellarslie honoring past society presidents and Dorothy and Philip Albert for their contributions to the arts and culture in Trenton. The event celebrated the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Trenton City Museum, the 35th anniversary of the Trenton Museum Society and the 160th anniversary of Ellarslie itself, built as a summer home for Philadelphia industrialist Henry McCall by notable architect Jon Notman in 1848. The event, a fundraiser for the programs of the Trenton Museum Society, featured live and Chinese auctions, delicious food from Revere Ristorante, Olsson's Fine Foods and Cairo Cakes, and the Rhythm and Blues of the fabulous Mojo Gypsies. >>More photos of the even
