The Music of Howard Parker & His Hot Take-Out Band

Friday, April 16, 2010
7:30 p.m.

Bleecker Street meets Bourbon Street as The Trenton Museum Society presents Howard Parker & His HOT Take-Out Band.

This classic Zydeco Jam Band will perform their own unique brand of American Roots Music; a spicy mixture of zydeco, folk, blues and politics... to go!

A Trenton Native, Howard Parker's family roots go back almost 100 years. He credits his approach to songwriting and performing as a tribute to his roots as well as his friendships. Working over the years with New Jersey songwriters Greg Stier, John Hynes, DaVido, Irwin Levine and Richard Lester as both collaborator and guitarist/producer has contributed significantly toward his unique approach to songwriting as well as establishing his distinctive American Roots style.

Miltmon, the surfer dude percussionist, has previously lent his grooves to such notables as Kinky Friedman, Susanne Vega and The Night Tripper himself, Dr John. Miltmon's kit is like some kind of one-man drum circle.

Steve O Nelson, the former Tipitinas doorman, weaves his scrubboard and percussion with plenty of gris with Miltmon's Orleans funk.

Marc Hamza, air keyboards, is a road warrior and musical encyclopedia as he interprets ethnic classics within the same cosmic space as Chicago blues, zydeco and folk.

Parker's introspective style focuses on embracing one's true nature, loving peoples foibles, living a dream and facing paranoia. He connects with fans new and old, speaking the truth about who we are and what we hope to become.

Music Shopper Forum Review says, "Parker sounds very similar to James Taylor not only in vocals but in style as well. Even though these guys are out of New Jersey and play quite a bit of folk, there is also a dash Louisiana swamp music to keeo the bayou lovers happy and gives the music a little flavor."

GumbolLicious "loved how the band used traditional instruments and came up with such a fat, greasy gumbo type sound."

Smother Magazine writes, "Funky bass culls you in while the whiskey soaked vocals and blues keyboards pull you in tighter... Good stuff."
